The Inglewood Hunting Deck

The Inglewood Hunting Deck playing cards, medieval-style animal-suited cards featuring original watercolour artwork by Ian Cumpstey

The cards are inspired by the luxury hand-painted playing cards of late-medieval Germany, in particular the 15th century Stuttgart and Ambras hunting decks.

The cards have the structure of a standard pack of 52 playing cards, so they can be used for games played with a standard pack. But the appearance of these cards is completely different.

The cards have four thirteen-card suits: hawks, hounds, pheasants, and deer. Each of the number cards has a scene featuring the appropriate number of animals. The tens appear as banners. The court cards are the usual Jack, Queen, and King. The cards are playing card size (bridge size), with corner indices for ease of use, and a two-way full-bleed back design. Two extra Joker / title cards are also included.

The Inglewood Hunting Deck was first published in 2016. For this second edition (2023), the cards were printed by Cartamundi. The cards are delivered in a custom printed tuck box.
